Brian May on Adam Lambert: 'We had chemistry'

Iconic Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that Adam Lambert was brought to his attention during his time on "American Idol" as his performances of the band's "Bohemian Rhapsody" prompted lots of people to contact May about the young star.

May told South China Morning Post that people flooded his inbox telling him to check out Lambert and he's glad that he did:

“I must have had 1,000 people e-mailing me saying: you have to see this guy; he’s the guy you need to be singing for you. When it came to the final, I think immediately there was some chemistry and I remember thinking, ‘Hmm, this could work’.”

“A couple of years later we had the opportunity to play an awards show, and the response was just phenomenal. Soon we found ourselves playing in front of 400,000 people in eastern Europe; it was the first fully fledged Queen show for years.”

He went onto add that Freddie Mercury isn't replaceable and while Lambert will never take his place, he brings something incredibly unique to the line-up:

“The thing is, he’s not Freddie. He doesn’t need to be. But he has an extraordinary instrument, and he’s a natural with crowds. He also has humility, which is nice, and that delightful kind of lightness which makes people warm to him, and it really fits so well with us because we’d spent those years with Freddie, who also had that lightness."
