Adam Lambert to front Queen at Sonisphere Festival 2012

Queen's Roger Taylor and Brian May have confirmed that they will perform at the UK's Sonisphere Festival and will recruit vocal sensation Adam Lambert as their live frontman for the second time.

The 'Whataya Want From Me' hitmaker rocked the MTV EMAs with the iconic band in November last year and will return once again to play a special set at Knebworth Park on Saturday, July 7.

An official press release from legendary guitarist May explained that Lambert is a fantastic singer and feels he "would meet with Freddie's approval":

"Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.”

In the past few minutes (8.13pm BST) Lambert took to his Twitter account to reveal the exciting news himself and wrote: "As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert! Sonisphere at Knebworth July 7th!"

"Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could. Gonna be a surreal night!"

Tickets for the rock and metal event are due to go on sale at 9am on Thursday, February 23. Check out his stunning performance with Queen at the 2011 MTV EMAs below:
