The 2013 O Awards will be held on June 19th at 7pm ET/4pm PT online and there will be a "24-hour livestreamed party to celebrate and honor the artists, innovators and fans that are impacting music, technology and counter culture today."

During an interview with Pressparty last summer, the 'Trespassing' hitmaker explained that he feels united with his fans because they all share common ground: "We all want the same things, we all need the same things, we all fear the same things. We’re just different sexes, but we all kind of go through a lot of the same sh*t."

Adam Lambert's GLAAD Awards acceptance speech: 'It's a crucial time'

Vocal superstar Adam Lambert was honoured at the 2013 GLAAD Awards over the weekend and gave a bold speech about empowerment, acceptance and honesty.

The 'Trespassing' hitmaker was presented with the Davidson/Valentini award on Saturday, May 11 for making a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community and from the stage he spoke out about being an openly gay male in the entertainment industry and what he has learned from his experience:

"Thank you. Ok, I have to make a speech. I'm supposed to be just a singer, but I tried to write a speech so bear with me. After almost winning 'American Idol', I have become a public figure. An openly gay public figure, and with that comes a lot of responsibility and a lot of opinions."

Lambert went on to discuss this generation's increasing sense of acceptance, acknowledging those that have paved the way, and confessed that it's tough to live up to everyone's expectations when trying to be a good role model even referencing his own song, 'Whataya Want From Me'. He continued:

"At the end of the day, it's not always so black and white. On one hand you have the stonewall generation, who paved the way. They're proud rebels who have waved the rainbow banner. They've fought for our rights and brought causes into the light and into the press. On the other hand you have the next generation coming up. Because of the groundwork that's been laid, they have more than the luxury to say, 'so I'm gay, no big deal. My sexuality does not define me'."

"It's a crucial time. We're right in the middle of two generations with two different perspectives but one common thread - love. With all the differences of opinion both within the LGBT community and elsewhere, all we can do is keep it real and spread a message of acceptance."

'Trespassing' hitmaker Adam Lambert performed at Miami Beach Gay Pride over the weekend and also received the key to the city, and sat down for an interview with PrideLiveTV while at the event.

Talking about being invited to play a live set at Pride, the singer explained that there's a strong sense of community at LGBT events that creates a fantastic environment" "Whenever you get to come to a celebration like this, the energy's really high and everybody's feeling unified and I think that's a really nice 'family' feel."

When asked about his forthcoming new album, Lambert was very coy and teased: "All I can say is that I'm working on stuff and I have to be very ambiguous! I've no idea when I'm going to be able to talk about it. I haven't even started recording it yet."

He also confessed that the freedom that comes with growing equality is fantastic from a creative perspective as it allows him to write about a range of things in his music:

"It is a really important time. We're definitely in the midst of our own civil rights movement in a way. We're dealing with equality issues and it's just being unapologetic and being who we are, and I love that there's this movement going on right now."

"People are really excited about our community, our voices are being heard and it's become mainstream which is huge for us. It's amazing being a part of this movement. Internationally, it makes you think of a certain freedom we have in our country."

Adam Lambert receives the Key to Miami

Glam icon, Adam Lambert, received the Key to the City of Miami today (April 14) ahead of headlining Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival this evening.

The Key to the City was presented by Miami Beach Mayor, Matti Bower, to Lambert for: "being brave enough to be openly gay on American Idol."

Lambert accepted the Key and said: "Thank you! I'm openly happy right now for this key. I don't know what the hell it really opens, but I'm certainly going to find out."

Yesterday (April 13) Lambert attended a press conference in his honour, and told the awaiting media and fans:

"The energy's really high and everybody's feeling kind of unified. I think that's going to be a very nice family feel for the show.

Lambert went on to say that it has become more important than ever for him to connect with the gay and lesbian community:

"People are really excited that our voices are being heard. It's becoming main stream."

Adam Lambert now "totally comfortable" being a gay role model

Former 'American Idol' superstar Adam Lambert has revealed that after years of being in the spotlight as an openly gay male he's finally comfortable with the 'role model' status.

During an interview with South Florida Gay News, the 'Trespassing' singer explained that it took him a while to come to terms with the pressure he felt to be a spokesperson for the LGBT community:

"I’m totally comfortable with it now. You know it’s weird, I was just being honest. It’s a bit daunting. You’re a role model or icon or you’re supposed to try to be one so I was intimated by it at first. I didn’t realize that was going to come with everything. I was just trying to sing."

Lambert added that he learned how to cope with the expectations by identifying the fact that he 'didn't really have a lot of gay role models' in his youth and trying to step into the shoes of the kind of person he would have looked up:

"One of the thing that drives me the most is when I was younger I didn’t really have a lot of gay role models who were proud and gay and open and were who they were. I’ve gotten letters and met younger people in the LGBT community who have said “Wow I really appreciate the fact that you don’t make any apologies and you’re just this wacky guy.” And that alone gives me a lot of confidence."

"If I can help a young person feel more comfortable in their own skin or be the person they want to be it’s f**king awesome."

Adam Lambert: 'I still feel like an outsider in the music industry'

'Trespassing' superstar Adam Lambert has revealed that feeling like 'an outsider' in the music industry works in his favour as it allows him to be challenged and gives him a 'stronger point of view'.

During an interview with Wire magazine, Lambert was asked about a quote he gave to Pressparty back in 2012 about being a "post-gay man in a pre-gay industry" and explained that he still feels alienated in a way, but it doesn't hold him back:

"I still sometimes feel like an outsider in the music industry, but I suppose that gives me a stronger point of view as an artist. I’ve always felt a bit alienated. It’s what makes me who I am. I’m proud to represent something alternative to the status quo. In Pop, that’s both a challenge and a privilege."

The 'Never Close Our Eyes' hitmaker also admitted that while he's thrilled at his commercial success, he would rather measure it in 'happiness' than celebrity status: "Success is relative − I may have my career highs and lows, but all of it is an amazing step up from where I was five years ago. I am my own boss and I get to do what I love as a career. I feel very fortunate and I plan to keep measuring success in the happiness I get to share with my family, friends and fans."

When asked what's next for him, Lambert said that he will perform a live set at the Miami Beach Gay Pride festival this weekend (April 13-14) and added: "I’m working on a few different projects. I’m very excited about Life Ball in Vienna in May. If you aren’t familiar, look it up − it’s a huge spectacle of a fundraiser."
