Adele has beaten Coldplay to No.1 in the US albums chart battle

Adele has beaten Coldplay in the race for No.1 in the US albums chart.

The singer's third effort '25' sold 695,000 units in the past seven days to top the list once again.

Coldplay's new record 'A Head Full of Dreams' shifted 210,000 copies to land in second place.

It echoes the two acts' recent UK chart battle, which Adele won.

The 'Hello' star's album has now sold 5.19 million units in the US.

This makes it the biggest selling album of a year since Adele released '21' in 2011.

That effort sold 5.82 million copies in a year in the States.
