Adele, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are the first performers to be confirmed for the 2011 MTV VMAs. 

The powerful trio will take the stage at the forthcoming event, which is due to take place on Sunday, August 28 at the Los Angeles Nokia Theatre, and Amy Doyle, MTV's vice president of music and entertainment, said that Adele will "bring chills down everybody's spine, if not bring them to tears."

Lil Wayne, meanwhile, is excited to perform to the crowd as the event coincides with the long-awaited release of his 'Tha Carter IV' album and said, "Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honour because everyone doesn't get that opportunity."

"[I'm] looking forward to performing on the show and having [new album] Tha Carter IV drop the same week."
