Adele voted 2012's top gay icon by British radio station

British sensation Adele can celebrate yet another accolade today (April 23) as she was voted the top gay icon by a UK based LGBT radio station.

The 'Someone Like You' songstress, who made an impressive return to No.1 in the albums chart last night with her sophomore record '21', beat other nominees to the title with 55% of the final vote in Gaydar's popular poll.

'Born This Way' icon Lady Gaga was also a contender, but against Adele only managed to land 19% of the votes, and Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue won the crown in 2011.

Robin Crowley, Gaydar's programme controller, said in a statement:

"Adele has numerous Grammys and Brits, but this is the accolade she’s been waiting for.”
