Adele's US airplay honoured with BMI award

Adele's hit track 'Rolling In The Deep' has won the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Song of the Year award.

The music royalty body held their London awards last night (October 9) and Adele's track was named as the most played song on US radio and television in 2011.

It has been played over two million times in the country to date and managed to rack up a staggering 1.35 million plays in a six-month period last year.

It is reported that the song's total plays so far in the US are the equivalent of the track being "performed back-to-back for more than 12 years".

Speaking about the BMI, President and CEO Del Bryant said: "Songs are born, and then they journey throughout the world's marketplace, through traditional broadcasts, digital platforms, local businesses and other industries. BMI tracks and shepherds that journey. As the son of professional songwriters, I understand and admire the passion and pride that our songwriters feel as their work crosses cultures and defines eras, and the essential need to safeguard that work."
