Adele receives MBE

British songstress Adele has been awarded an MBE on the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The 'Someone Like You' singer has been recognised for her services to music,  alongside fellow artist PJ Harvey.

Other names on the list include Blackadder star Tony Robinson who received a knighthood.

The actor said that he was "thrilled, flattered and a little gob-smacked" to be awarded the title.

Much-loved comedians Rowan Atkinson and Rob Brydon received a CBE and an MBE respectively, while broadcaster Clare Balding was given an OBE.

According to the Cabinet Office, 20 people turned the prestigious honour down, however those that have accepted the coveted titles will go to Buckingham Palace to receive their awards.

Adele is no stranger to success, and picked up an Oscar earlier this year thanks to her incredible theme tune to James Bond film 'Skyfall'.

The international superstar - who gave birth to son Angelo in October - also has a string of Brit Awards and Grammys to her name.

Adele's critically-acclaimed second album '21' became the fourth biggest-selling album of all time in the UK in December last year.

The album - which has spawned hits including 'Rolling in the Deep' and 'Set Fire to the Rain' - has also been the most-purchased album in the US for two years running.
