Adele gets no "special treatment" at home

Oscar-winning singer Adele "doesn't get any special treatment" when she returns to her family home, insists her aunt.

The international superstar's aunt Anita Adkins says the mother-of-one is very down-to-earth despite being a chart-topping songstress.

In an interview with British newspaper The Sun, Adkins revealed: “I’m a fan and I cried over her, but she’s my niece and that’s as far as it goes. She doesn’t get any special treatment — of course not. Why would she? There’s plenty of nieces, nephews and grandchildren in this family so no one gets any special treatment, I can tell you. They’re all treated the same.

She added: “Adele comes round and she’s still got to go and make her nan a cup of tea, I’m afraid.”

Adele recently won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for 'Skyfall', and her aunt says the family couldn't be more proud of the singer's accolades.

Adkins explained: “We didn’t expect her to get it, but good on her. There’s not a lot more for her to top now, is there? She’s worked her way through all the awards.

She continued: “All the cousins sat up watching it, and of course they’re proud. Adele’s the same as us — when she burst into tears, we all did too.

“We’re all quite strong but we’re all quite emotional. Adele’s one of us — she burst into tears because she’s happy and overjoyed, and we are too. We feel what she feels.”

Adele has triumphed in the 'Best British Single' category at the BRIT Awards in London tonight (February 20).

The star's 'Skyfall' beat off fellow nominees including Labrinth's 'Beneath Your Beautiful',

James Arthur's 'Impossible', Robbie Williams' 'Candy', Coldplay and Rihanna's 'Princess of China'.

Adele couldn't be at the ceremony as she is currently in Los Angeles rehearsing for the Oscars, but she appeared on a video link to accept the award.

Joking about last year when host James Corden famously cut the singer's acceptance speech short to introduce Blur, Adele quipped: "I don't want to interrupt the best album speech at the end of the night," before assuring fans she'd be back in the country soon.

Meanwhile, Coldplay scooped the gong for 'Best British Live Act' beating the likes of Mumford & Sons, Muse and The Rolling Stones.

Taking to the stage, the band gushed: "Thank you very much. This is extraordinary."

Dave Grohl presented the awards for 'Best International Group' which went to The Black Keys.

Adele BRITs blunder to be put right at tonight's show

The chairman for the BRIT Awards has revealed that Adele's shortened speech at last year's ceremony will be rectified at tonight's show.

The British songstress was famously cut short when she stepped on stage to accept the award for 'British Album' at last year's coveted ceremony.

During her speech to the audience and fans at home, Adele was interrupted by host James Corden as he introduced Blur onto the stage.

The annual ceremony's chairman David Joseph has revealed last year's situation was a terrible misjudgement and will be put right at tonight's (February 20) proceedings at London's O2 Arena.

Speaking to The Guardian, he explained: "How can you take an artist who has made the biggest cultural impact musically this country has seen globally for some time and cut her off in the middle of her speech? I very much to this day question what was happening in that control booth."

He continued: "I can hint something is going to happen this year to rewrite that wrong. I'd stay tuned to this year's show to see if there is any form of squaring of that circle."

Chart-topping star Adele is competing in the 'British Single' category at the BRITs tonight for her soundtrack to James Bond film 'Skyfall' starring Daniel Craig.

Dido: "Adele is amazing"

Dido thinks 'Skyfall' songstress Adele is "amazing".

The 'Stan' singer has praised the crop of British stars currently making waves in America.

Dido, who recently took a break from the industry to have son Stanley, is impressed with the chart-topping female singers flying the flag for the UK.

In an interview with Look magazine, the star gushed: "I love it! [new female singers on the scene]. Emeli Sande, Adele...There are so many amazing singers coming out of this country and I feel proud to be any part of that."

Dido is gearing up for the release of new single 'No Freedom' and the star says her young son influenced a lot of her new music.

She explained: "I recorded a lot of the album while pregnant and I loved having a little mate kicking when I was singing. So far I've not written about him. It almost feels too big to write about. I did sing a track called Girl Who Got Away when I was pregnant and when Stanley was born that song completely calmed him down. He's my biggest critic!"
