Sandie Shaw misquoted in today's press

Sandie Shaw attended the House of Commons yesterday and lobbied MP's to do something about the unfair state of artist copyright splits on behalf of FAC, the Featured Artists Coalition, an organisation formed to defend the rights of recording artists. Sandie is chair of FAC whose proactive members include Nic Mason of Pink Floyd, Dave Rowntree of Blur and Mumford and Sons.

The iconic 60's singer who releases her back catalogue in May, later appeared on Channel 5 news, where she stated that current splits on digital sales of recordings sometimes left the artist with as little as 1p, whilst labels got the lions share of 46p and session musicians could get as much as 10p. A flawed system unfair in comparison leaving artists struggling in the current digital climate.

Sandie has been misquoted in todays media coverage and would like to make it clear that Mumford and Sons are valued members of FAC and campaign relentlessly for artists rights. She is a big fan of their music and wholly believes their success is well deserved.

Boston MA, USA, March 20, 2013. Berklee College of Music president Roger Brown will present Carole King, Willie Nelson, and Annie Lennox with honorary doctor of music degrees at Berklee's commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 11, at the 7,000-seat Agganis Arena at Boston University. Commencement speaker Annie Lennox will address more than 900 Berklee graduates, their parents, and invited guests.

This year's honorary doctorate recipients are being recognized for their achievements and influence in music, and for their enduring contributions to American and international culture. Past recipients include Duke Ellington (the first, in 1971), Dizzy Gillespie, Smokey Robinson, Steven Tyler, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Juan Luis Guerra, Loretta Lynn, Paco de Lucía, David Bowie, the Edge, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Chaka Khan, Bonnie Raitt, George Clinton, Alison Krauss, Kenneth Gamble, and Leon Huff.

On commencement eve, as is Berklee's tradition, students will pay tribute to the honorees by performing music associated with their careers at the Agganis. The concert and ceremony are not open to the public.

Carole King, a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is the most successful female songwriter in pop music history. King penned dozens of hit songs in the 1960’s with then-husband Gerry Goffin, including “One Fine Day,” “The Loco-Motion,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” It was 1971’s Tapestry that took her to the pinnacle. Tapestry won three key Grammy Awards—record, song and album of the year—a first for a female artist, sold more than 25 million copies, and remained the best-selling album by a female artist for 25 years. She has amassed three additional platinum and seven gold albums. King reunited with James Taylor – who hit #1 with her song “You’ve Got a Friend” – for Live at the Troubadour, resulting in a 2010 world tour and documentary. More than 400 of her compositions have been recorded, by over 1,000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles. King is also actively involved with environmental organizations in support of forest wilderness preservation. She released her memoir, A Natural Woman, in 2012.

Willie Nelson has earned every conceivable award as a musician in his six-decade, 200-plus album career. He has also amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. The iconic Texan is the creative genius behind historic recordings like “Crazy,” “Red Headed Stranger,” and “Stardust.” In 2010, he released Country Music, produced by T Bone Burnett. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Nelson’s 2011 albums included Here We Go Again: Celebrating the Genius of Ray Charles and Remember Me Vol. 1. In 2012, Heroes, his first album for Legacy Recordings, spent five weeks at #1 on the Americana Radio Chart. His book Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die hit the Top 10 on The New York Times Best Sellers list. Written in his inimitable, homespun voice, the book is a deeply personal look into the heart and soul of a unique man and one of the greatest artists of our time. Let's Face The Music And Dance, an album of deep pop country classics performed by Nelson and Family, comes out in April.

Annie Lennox, singer, songwriter, activist, and one of the finest musical voices of our time, is celebrated as an innovator and icon. Born in Scotland, she studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she met Dave Stewart and formed Eurythmics. The duo sold over 75 million albums, with over 20 international hits. In 1990, Lennox’s solo debut, Diva, entered the UK charts at #1, selling 6 million copies worldwide. Lennox is an Ambassador for UNAIDS, Oxfam, Amnesty International and The British Red Cross. After witnessing the plight of women and children struggling with HIV in South Africa, she founded the SING campaign to help prevent the spread of the virus. Her accolades include 8 BRIT Awards, 10 Grammy nominations and 4 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, the American Music Awards Lifetime Achievement, Billboard's Century Award, the Nobel Peace Laureates ‘Woman of Peace’ Award, and a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ from the ‘Inspiration Awards’ for women. In 2011 she was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in recognition of her humanitarian work.

Berklee College of Music, for over 65 years, has evolved to support its belief that the best way to prepare students for careers in music is through contemporary music education. The college was the first in the U.S. to teach jazz, the popular music of the time. It incorporated rock n’ roll in the 1960s, created the world's first degree programs in film scoring, music synthesis, and songwriting, and, in recent years, added world music, hip-hop, electronica, and video game music to its curriculum. With a diverse student body representing over 80 countries, a music industry "who’s who" of alumni that have received 229 Grammy Awards, Berklee is the world’s premier learning lab for the music of today – and tomorrow.

MU WELCOMES NEW INSTRUMENTS ON PLANES PROPOSAL

The Musicians’ Union (MU) has welcomed a new proposal before the European Parliament which would finally solve the problems that musicians face when travelling on planes with their instruments.

The proposal would revise Air Passenger Rights and would mean that ‘the air carriers must accept smaller instruments into the passenger cabin and must clearly indicate the terms and conditions for the transport of larger instruments in the cargo hold.’

This comes as a result of intense MU and FIM (International Federation of Musicians) lobbying on the issue which saw more than 40,000 people sign a petition to persuade Europe to bring in legislation to clarify rules on the carrying of instruments.

John Smith, MU General Secretary and FIM President, says:
“I am delighted that the European Parliament looks set to adopt this proposal, which will make such a difference to working musicians.

“The MU has been lobbying on this issue for years and actually reached an agreement with the Department for Transport in 2006, but we have long been saying that it is only by working at a European and international level that we can successfully tackle this issue, as the problem is much broader than just UK airlines.

“The problem has always been that existing law allows each airline to set their own policy regarding musical instrument, and this proposal would bring much needed uniformity and fairness to the whole sector.”

"In Your Dreams" Stevie Nicks Documentary Scheduled For Exclusive North American Release on April 2nd

Intimate Portrait of Grammy Award Winning Artist and Member of Legendary Rock Band Fleetwood Mac as She Creates Album with Dave Stewart

Film Featured at SXSW Film Festival on March 14th in Austin, Texas with Media Q&A Red Carpet

Special Screening at Famed TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) on April 15th with Nicks Including Q&A

Following the tremendous positive response to the Stevie Nicks documentary "In Your Dreams", an intimate portrait of one of rock's most enduring and legendary artists, at the Hamptons International Film Festival and the Mill Valley Film Festival, this up close portrayal of Nicks recording her critically acclaimed "In Your Dreams" CD in collaboration with Dave Stewart is now scheduled to screen in over 50 theaters across North America on April 2nd. Tickets will be available on www.inyourdreamsmovie.com once they go on sale. A current schedule of cities and theaters follows this release, with more cities to be added.

The "In Your Dreams" film is being distributed by Abamorama. Co-produced and co-directed by former Eurythmic Dave Stewart, "In Your Dreams" is a portrait of the elusive Nicks as she and Stewart embark on a musical journey to write and record the critically acclaimed album "In Your Dreams." Nicks called this "the greatest year of my life" and felt compelled to share the joyful experience that she terms "the day the circus came to town" with her fans. The record was co-written by Nicks and Stewart and produced by Stewart and Glen Ballard . Watch the trailer at www.inyourdreamsmovie.com

Nicks, one of the lead singers and emotional catalyst for Fleetwood Mac , is embarking on a world tour with them beginning April 4th in Columbus Ohio. A multi Grammy Award winning artist and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Nicks allowed cameras inside her magical old mansion high atop the hills of LA with a wild cast of musicians and friends. The inner life of the legendary Nicks has by her design long been kept at a distance from the public. We learn in "Dreams" that her world features, costume parties, elaborate dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations and revealing songwriting and recording sessions all of which are captured on film. Also cameos by Edgar Allan Poe , Mick Fleetwood , Reese Witherspoon , a massive white stallion in the backyard, owls and naturally a few vampires who appear in several "home movie" style music videos.

Along with tracking the Nicks/Stewart creative partnership, "In Your Dreams" has plenty of other cinematic payoffs including rare never before seen personal scrapbook stills from Nicks' childhood and family life, and a wealth of candid backstage and performance shots taken over the last 35 years. The documentary was produced by Dave Stewart 's production company, Weapons of Mass Entertainment.

Nicks, who has sold millions of records as a solo artist and writer of such iconic songs as "Landslide," "Gold Dust Woman" and "Edge of 17," is regularly cited by stars as diverse as Taylor Swift , Kid Rock, Courtney Love , Sheryl Crow , The Dixie Chicks and John Mayer as an iconic favorite and heroine and is a continuous inspiration to the world's top fashion designers.

"She is really real. It doesn't matter if she is singing in the make-up room or in the middle of a TV interview. She is who she is, and she doesn't change," commented Stewart.

"This is our baby and we give her lovingly into your dreams. From our tribe to yours," concluded Nicks.

Official Statement from the Royal Borough of Greenwich regarding the Justin Bieber concert delay

A Royal borough of Greenwich spokesperson said on March 6 2013:

“The Royal Borough of Greenwich has not taken any action against the owners of The O2 in relation to Justin Bieber’s recent performance, as no breach of our licensing conditions took place.

It is simply a contractual issue between AEG and the artist involved, as there is no requirement for performances to finish by 11pm.

The O2 is the world’s most popular entertainment venue and sells over two million tickets each and every year as it plays host to many of the world’s biggest names.

"We take any complaints made in relation to the venue very seriously, but it is an urban myth to suggest that we have ever levied a fine in relation to a performance there.”
