Imelda Marcos being wooed by David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim with musical

David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim are setting their sights on enticing the former first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, to star in their London musical.

'Here Lies Love' is based on the astonishing journey of First Lady Imelda Marcos retracing her meteoric rise to power and subsequent descent into infamy and disgrace at the end of the People Power Revolution.

The musical is currently running at NYC's Public Theater. It will then run at London's National Theatre this autumn. The production team for the musical have flown out to Manila to hold open-call auditions this weekend to be held at the Opera Haus today and tomorrow (July 5 and 6) in Makati City.

The show is described by the producers as a "thrillingly immersive show" that "retraces the astonishing journey of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos from her meteoric rise to power to her descent into infamy and the People Power Revolution. An adrenaline-fueled, 360-degree multimedia spectacle"

'Here Lies Love' is set in a pulsating dance club atmosphere incorporating four decades of dance music and a 360-degree scenic and video environment. The musical focuses on more than Marcos' legendary shoe obssession to explore the tragic consequences of the abuse of power.

Press night for the London show will be on October 13, with the preview on September 30.  The musical runs until January 2015.
