Beastie Boys' mural being painted on site of Paul's Boutique

An artist has started work on a mural in New York City that will pay tribute to the Beastie Boys’ classic album, 'Paul's Boutique', which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary (see Instagram photo on left hand side).

This morning (July 26) Brooklyn artist Danielle Mastrion began painting the mural on the outside of sandwich shop Wolfnights, located at the corner of Rivington and Ludlow. The street corner, formerly the home of Lee’s Sportswear, was famously displayed on the album cover of 'Paul's Boutique' (see below).

The mural was spearheaded by hip-hop fan LeRoy McCarthy, who unsuccessfully petitioned the local community board to name the Lower East Side intersection “Beastie Boys Square” last December.

In the summer of 2013, a park in Brooklyn Heights was renamed after Adam "MCA" Yauch, following his death last year from cancer. Band members Yauch, Horovitz and Diamond all grew up in New York City.
