Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has injured his ankle during a surfing accident in New York.

The singer decided to hit the waves in the Hamptons area last week, during a break from recording the band's next album, which they have been working on this year in a London studio. They are expected to release the album this year. It will be the first since the bands 2008, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends'. 

 Martin was left hurt during his surf and is now wearing a plaster cast on his foot.
