'American Idol' judges announced

After nearly two months of rumours, Ryan Seacrest, the host of 'American Idol', has finally announced the judges for the upcoming 10th series of the show.

Actress, Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith singer, Steven Tyler, are set to be the new faces for the next season.

According to People magazine, Lopez is set to be paid $12m (£7.7m) for being a judge on the show.

Both superstars have a huge task ahead of them replacing Simon Cowell, as the show has seen its ratings slip in recent seasons.

However, Fox now have an opportunity to at least partly remake the singing competition, though producers note that the most important factors are the amateur singers who audition and try to win the viewers’ votes.

The existing judges panel of four was whittled down to one over the summer, starting with Mr. Cowell leaving the show in May. Ellen DeGeneres then announced her departure at the end of July, followed by Kara DioGuardi only three weeks ago. Randy Jackson is now the only remaining judge.

The talent contest is expected to return to US television in January, 2011.
