Ronan Keating in Gately tribute

It was one year ago Sunday (October 10) that Boyzone star Stephen Gately was found dead, aged 33, at the home he shared with partner Andrew Cowles in Majorca, Spain.

To mark the occasion and celebrate the singer’s memory, remaining members of the boy band are reuniting on Australia’s The X Factor – where Ronan Keating is a judge – to perform a song in tribute to Gately.

Close friends and family of Gately scattered the stars ashes in Dalkley Bay, Ireland on Sunday, but Keating was unable to attend due to his commitments to The X Factor. However, bandmates Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham have flown Down Under to be with Keating on the anniversary.

This evening (October 11), the three members will take to The X Factor stage to perform a rendition of “Gave It All Away” – which originally featured lead vocals from Gately – alongside Aussie singer Natalie Imbruglia, who will be standing in for Keith Duffy. Duffy is unable to attend due to filming commitments for Coronation Street.

Speaking about the anniversary, Keating said to Confidential: "It's hard to believe it is a year. We still feel like he is still around and still with us. It's like he's on holidays, and it's surreal to know that he has gone.

“The boys are here which makes it a little bit easier,” he continued. “We try to be around each other on his birthday or whatever the day may be... It's brilliant as long as we can honour and commemorate Stephen."
