Lil Wayne's prison guard suspended

A prison guard at New York’s Rikers Island jail has been suspended after allegedly chatting to rapper Lil Wayne for 45 minutes while he was in solitary confinement.

Captain Raphael Collazzo was caught on camera entering the hip hop star’s cell, the New York Daily News claims.

The hip hop star is currently serving out an eight-month sentence on illegal weapons charges and was sent to solitary after being caught using banned musical equipment.

Defending his colleague, president of the union for Department of Correction captains Patrick Ferraiuolo said: "I spoke to the captain and I said, 'Do you know what's going on?' He goes: 'I have done nothing wrong ... I don't have any dealings with this guy'."

The incident comes after correction officer Amelia Negron was fired at the jail earlier this year for allegedly entering Lil Wayne’s cell without proper authorisation.
