John Lydon on losing his vision: "If I lose my eyesight, I lose my life"

The Sex Pistols icon, John Lydon, has revealed he is losing his eyesight and is worried that he will end up blind.

The British 60-year-old punk, who rose to fame with his lyrics about anarchy, has suffered bad eyesight since contracting meningitis as a child.

He now wears glasses on stage to prevent him falling off the edge.

“My eyesight is going – it started from the meningitis but it’s getting worse. I can’t read anything. Even newspaper headlines are blurry.

“If I lose my eyesight, I lose my life. I’d rather give up my ears than my eyes, which might sound unusual for a musician. If I couldn’t see the world around me that would be a terrific loss.

“If I lost my vision completely, that would be something I’d have to analyse in my mind. It’s gloomy but I can enjoy depression.”

John Lydon is embarking on a Public Image Ltd (PiL) European tour to promote the band's 2015 album, 'What The World Needs Now'.
