President Obama to replicate SXSW music festival at White House next month

President Obama has announced a music festival to be held on the lawns of the White House on October 3.

Called 'South By South Lawn' the event is influenced by his speaking engagement at the South by SouthWest festival in March in which he spoke about 'a call to arms' to use innovation to 'address our ills'.

The one-day event aims to bring together mavericks and influences from around the US for a night of music, film and innovation.

Jason Goldman, White House chief digital officer said:

"South by South Lawn is a call to arms for every American to roll up their sleeves and make a positive mark on our country - and a celebration of the great work so many of us have already accomplished.'

The South By South West festival in Austin, Texas has partnered with the White House for the event.

The music section of the event will feature 'well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.'
