The Bowie stamps that 'Fell to Earth' after being propelled into space

Royal Mail stamps of David Bowie were recently propelled into space, as a tribute to the late icon and musician.

The 10-stamp set, featuring images from some of Bowie’s most popular album covers and of the superstar, were created to honor him, following his death last January from cancer at the age of 69.

Fifty-two sets of the stamps were launched into space on special helium balloons, as a tribute to Bowie’s role in the 1976 movie, 'The Man Who Fell to Earth'.

Six of the stamps feature images of Bowie album covers:
‘Hunky Dory’
'Aladdin Sane’
'Heroes'
‘Let’s Dance’
‘Earthling’
‘Blackstar’

The remaining four stamps feature images of Bowie performing live on different tours:
1972’s The Ziggy Stardust Tour
1978’s The Stage Tour
1983’s The Serious Moonlight Tour
2004’s A Reality Tour

The balloons with the stamps attached soared 34,100m at a vertical speed across the sky, before bursting and falling to earth. Fans who are lucky enough to guess where they might have landed, are in with a chance to win limited-edition covers. The contest ends March 26.

The other stamps went on sale yesterday (March 14).
