Katy Perry admits to fling behind 'I Kissed A Girl'

Katy Perry accepted the National Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign Gala in Los Angeles and used the opportunity to reveal that she wrote her hit 'I Kissed A Girl' after a fling with a woman.

Speaking of her breakthrough hit, 'I Kissed a Girl,' she said: "Truth be told, I did more than that."

Accepting her award from Lena Dunham, Perry talked freely about rebelling against her religious upbringing to accept gay people and experiences into her life when she discovered music:

"Most of my unconscious adolescence, I prayed that gay away at my Jesus camps. But then in the middle of it all, in a twist of events, I found my gift and my gift introduced me to people outside of my bubble. My bubble started to burst."

The 'Roar' hitmaker described her LGBTQ collaborators as "the most free, strong, kind and inclusive people I have ever met. They stimulated my mind and they filled my heart with joy and they freaking danced all the while doing it. These people are acutally magic, and they are magic because they are living the truth."
