Lily Allen reveals Grenfell Tower death toll could be 'closer to 150'

Lily Allen has revealed that the unofficial death toll figure she has heard from being down at ground zero at Grenfell Tower is closer to 150.

Allen has stated that the local authority has downplayed the actual figure but those working at the scene understand the death toll is staggeringly high.

Speaking to Jon Snow on Channel 4 News last night (June 15), she said:

"If we are talking about bringing reality into these people's lives, I think what people would really like is a more honest count of how many people have actually died in this event. How many people have been killed."

"I feel like the government are trying to micro manage people's grieving here.

"I have never in my entire life seen an event like this were the death count has been downplayed by the mainstream media."

Allen, who lives in the area, added: "Seventeen? I'm sorry, but I am hearing from people the figure is much closer to 150 - and that many of those people are children."

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, has announced that there will be an inquiry into the disaster. However, there is a public-led campaign for an inquest instead citing that there is less chance of a cover-up with an inquest. You can sign the petition here
