Ed Sheeran deletes Twitter after ‘Game of Thrones’ cameo backlash

Ed Sheeran has deleted his Twitter account after being criticised for his cameo performance in HBO's popular series Game of Thrones on Sunday (July 16).

The chart-topping, British singer-songwriter had mentioned a month ago that he was planning to stop using the social media platform due to the negativity and hateful comments that he was receiving. He'd previously told The Sun newspaper:

'I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.'

On this occasion some Game of Thrones fans tweeted negative remarks, like:

'That Ed Sheeran cameo on #GameOfThrones was remarkably awful'

'Oh FUCK OFF why is Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones? This shit is meant to be a fantasy world and they’ve turned it into one of his music vids'.

Sheeran fans are clearly upset with the abusive comments, with one fan tweeting in support:

"Fair enough if people didn't like Ed Sheeran's cameo in #GameOfThones but to send him so much abuse that he deletes his twitter account... '.
