British TV host and entertainer Sir Bruce Forsyth dies at the age of 89

Sir Bruce Forsyth, the veteran British TV entertainer and presenter, has passed away at the age of 89.

The former Strictly Come Dancing host had been unwell for some time and was in hospital earlier this year after a severe chest infection.

His long-spanning showbiz career started at the young age of just fourteen, and he went on to become one of the UK's most popular and highest-paid TV stars, hosting game shows such as The Generation Game.

In a statement his family have said: "It is with great sadness that the Forsyth family announce that Sir Bruce passed away this afternoon, peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Wilnelia and all his children."

The family says there will be no further comment at this time, and have asked for privacy.
