Toni Basil files law suit against Disney and Viacom over hit 'Mickey'

Toni Basil has taken on Disney Co., Viacom (owners of MTV, Nickelodeon and VH-1), Forever 21, as well as Razor & Tie, the music publisher, for illegal usage of her iconic hit song, 'Mickey'.

Originally released in 1981, 'Mickey' has been illegally licensing the track for commercial and TV usage according to Basil.

The court papers filed this week state that Razor & Tie 'regularly held themselves out as rights holders with the ability to license 'Mickey' for commercial synchronization.

Also, that they 'knowingly used [Basil's] name, likeness, and/or persona for the purpose of advertising, selling, and/or soliciting purchase of merchandise, goods and/or services" without her consent.'

Shows where her song was used with her consent include 'South Park' and 'RuPaul's Drag Race'.

Toni Basil is a 73-year-old, award-winning American singer-songwriter, choreographer and dancer who has also appeared as a guest judge on 'So You Think You Can Dance.'
