5th Harmony's Lauren Jauregui on fear stars face still revealing their sexuality

Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui has spoken out more about the fear and struggles stars often face when being honest about their sexuality.

The Cuban and American singer says many LGBTQ+ stars hide their sexuality due to a fear of losing their fans. She says she was warned not only by family and friends, but also record-label executives, that she shouldn't be so open about her personal life.

Jauregui decided to come out as bisexual in an open letter to Donald Trump not long after he was elected as the US president last year. However, in a brand new interview, the US singer has revealed that people are still not comfortable seeing her kiss her girlfriend. She admits:

"A lot of artists are held back by the notion that they'll lose their fan base or alienate themselves.

"Even friends and family would tell me to keep it to myself. But the more I thought about it, the more I was like, 'Why?'"

"People still talk [rubbish]."

Jauregui added that she's a bit uncomfortable with the word "bisexual" because it's too limited, and that people seem more willing to watch violence than accept same sex couples.

In the interview, she also touches on her same-sex duet with Halsey, named "Strangers", in which she highlights the shame LGBTQ+ people can feel. Jauregui reveals:

"To me the song is culturally valuable because people are feeling so invalidated and distant from themselves, like they should be ashamed of who they are.

"It's good to be an anarchist and just love yourself. That's the most rebellious thing you can do right now."
