St. Vincent kicked off her global Fear The Future tour with a sold-out show at the Brixton Academy in the UK capital of London last night (October 17). Check out ticket availability for more shows here.

Brixton happens to be fittingly the birth town of her icon, the late David Bowie, and the audience watched a new star be born that night, as St Vincent took the daring initiative to become a one-woman show without a band - albeit with plenty of guitars for company and a heaving audience in front of her.

The evening began with a screening of 'The Birthday Party', a movie she had directed, before she launched into the two-part St. Vincent show.

The first part of the show focused on her earlier catalogue including tracks from her last album, "Digital Witness", as well as "Strange Mercy" and "Marry Me".

Wearing an off-the-shoulder ruffled fuschia pink leotard, which Aladdin Sane would have been proud of, she appeared through a gap in a large draped curtain to perform a track, then the curtain would tantalisingly reveal a bit more whilst she moved to another microphone stand, slowly making her way around her back catalogue and the stage and eventually onto the floor as she lay down for her song, "Cheerleader".

The concert was initially marred by some deep reverberating bass which literally rocked your bones but in the moments this wasn't happening, the beauty and clarity of St. Vincent's vocal range and technique shone through, and the bass ended up just adding some shudders to the spine-tingling nature of the mesmerising performance.

The second part focused on tracks from her newly released album, "Masseduction", and saw a costume change into a Barbarella-esque silver dress, fishnet tights and bang-on trend patent silver boots. The backdrop featured artsy, cool striking video images mainly of super-sized Annies.

The stripped back nature of the show helped us focus on Annie Clark's exemplary guitar-playing skills as she shred and licked as if she was the birthchild of Jimi Hendrix and Prince.

"It's not the end," she implores as she sings Masseduction's "Smoking Section". Except it is, as that's the final song of the night.

If the definition of "Masseduction" is to seduce thousands in one go, then Annie Clark delivered this feat all on her own as the 5,000-strong crowd stood transfixed for most of the night unable to take their eyes off her. 

The Fear The Future tour continues in Manchester tonight (October 18) and ends next year in San Diego on January 27. 

"Masseduction" was released last Friday (October 13) and is on course to enter the UK Official Albums Top 5 this Friday (October 20).
