Everything you need to know about Korean pop sensations BTS

Korean pop sensations BTS chose the American Music Awards to make their eagerly awaited debut on US television last night (November 19), and now they've a whole new fanbase who are just as crazy for them as their existing one.

Who are BTS and what is their name short for? They are an Asian boyband and their name is actually an acronym for Beyond The Scene, though they also like to call themselves the Bangtan Boys.

The seven members, consisting of: Jin (Rap Monster), V, Suga, J-Hope, Jungkook and Jimin, had #BTSxAMAs trending worldwide during the AMAs as they performed their hit song, "DNA".

BTS first bounced onto the music scene back in June 2013 after releasing No More Dream taken off their debut album, 2 Cool 4 Skool for which they won several New Artist of the Year awards.

The lads may be new to many, but they have already released three albums since their first record, Dark & Wild, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Part 2 and The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: Young Forever

Their second full album, Wings (2016), peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200, which marked the highest chart ranking for a K-pop album ever. In their native South Korea, Wings became the best selling album in the Gaon Album Chart history at the time. The album went on to sell more than 1.5 million copies.

They've also won a string of awards, including New Artist Of The Year at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards, with their latest album Love Yourself: Her becoming the biggest selling Korean album of the last sixteen years.

As well as that, the group charted onto the Billboard Hot 100 list, were named the most retweeted artist by Forbes last year. Following that, Twitter launched its first ever K-pop Twitter emoji featuring BTS. They also made it onto Time’s list of 25 most influential people this summer in June.

Speaking to Billboard before the AMAs last night, Kim Nam-joon (Rap Monster) said:

"Performing in front of 10,000 people was our final dream. Tonight we’re going to perform in front of billions of people via television - it’s a miracle."

It's exciting times for BTS, so who knows what's ahead for the biggest boyband in history to come out of Korea but we're pretty sure you're going to be hearing a lot more about them from here on.
