Camila Cabello on significance of fighting for immigrants

Camila Cabello has spoken out about her need to defend immigrants.

The young singer-songwriter spoke about why she is passionate about fighting for the rights of immigrants, especially nowadays under the administration of US President Donald Trump. Cabello said:

"This country was built on immigrants.

"To not only make a better life for themselves, but contribute to this country and this culture."

The star herself was born in Cuba, east of Havana, but moved to Miami at five years of age. She has always been proud of her Cuban roots, dedicating her debut album's first global chart-topping single "Havana" to her Latin home.

Cabello addressed the issue as part of Billboard's Women in Music event which is set to air live tonight (November 30).

She said that she understands the fear that immigrants face and hopes to use her high-profile within the music industry to defend and fight for immigrants' rights as much as possible. She said:

"For me, it's really important to defend immigrants' rights and to defend the rights of Latinos and to defend my people.

"I will always fight for that."

Women in Music is set to air live tonight (November 30) via Twitter starting at 9pm ET/6 pm PT.
