Whitney Houston documentary coming this summer

A new documentary with rare footage on the late icon Whitney Houston is due to air soon.

The US superstar brought us some of the greatest songs of our lives, selling over 200 million albums worldwide. She remains the only artist in history to ever chart at Number One seven times consecutively in the US.

Plucked from her gospel-singing roots by her also legendary entertainment manager and music mogul, Clive Davies, she inspired a generation of singers from Mariah Carey through to Beyoncé.

But her incredible success was plagued with self-destruction, which sadly took her from the world too soon. With damaging stories filling the tabloids and magazines, the star's life was torn apart by her demons offstage.

Directed by the Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald ('Marley', 'Touching The Void') and from the two-time Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn ('Man On Wire, 'Searching for Sugar Man'), the documentary is set to give audiences a rare look into Houston’s life.

Made with full access to her family and collaborators, the movie will showcase exclusive audio and never-before-seen video archives from her time as a recording artist and performer.

By casting her story and her work in a new and revealing light, "Whitney Houston" will reassess the life and legacy of one of the world's biggest music stars.

The movie is set to be released in the USUK and Ireland on July 6.
