LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2011 --

Eight-time W.C. Handy "Best Blues Instrumentalist" award nominee Henry Butler visits with 200 students and faculty from historic neighboring Immaculate Conception School. WHAT:

The GRAMMY Museum welcomes downtown students into its state-of-the-art Clive Davis Theater in audience with renowned artist Henry Butler. The museum explores and celebrates the enduring legacies of all forms of music, occupying a vibrant space in downtown Los Angeles with a one-of-a-kind 30,000-square-foot museum with interactive, permanent and traveling exhibits. Its education mission is to use music as a gateway to learning, inspiring and cultivating creativity, critical-thinking and self-expression. Henry Butler exemplifies this mission in this intimate dialogue with the inner-city children of Immaculate Conception School.

Immaculate Conception School serves the Pico-Union neighborhood adjacent to L.A. Live, providing outstanding academic outcomes in the central city for over 90 years. It is a member of the Catholic Schools Consortium, a pilot project of the Specialty Family Foundation, whose mission includes the Believe It! Campaign to boost the opportunities, awareness and resources for at-risk populations of students in nine identified communities within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. While half the families in Pico-Union live below the federal poverty line, over 90-percent of Immaculate Conception School students advance and matriculate to colleges and universities.
