Red Hot Chili Peppers' broken bones

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, together with their new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer speak to the LA Times today about their former guitarists, touring and broken bones.

The former Bicycle Thief guitarist replaced John Frusciante who left after two decades with the band.

Frontman, Anthony Keidis recalls when Frusciante left in 2007 after the gruelling 'Stadium Arcadium' tour:

"We had been working hard and we were physically and emotionally chipped away.

"I stayed out on tour with broken bones in my feet from jumping off the bass drum — which is kind of agonizing, and it led to me being in a bad state of mind. John had become disenchanted with being in a touring rock band, which is completely understandable. He's a driven person in the world of music and sound, and he wanted to change gears."

This was the second time Frusciante had quit the band, the first time was in 1992 but he returned six years later.

Keidis was introduced to Klinghoffer by a mutual friend, and became a permanent Chili Pepper in 2009.

The new line-up will commence a major US tour in 2012 but will play some intimate shows first. One of which will be at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on August 22.

Keidis says: "It's never going to be too perfect. Thank God. We're just four guys who get together and write and listen to each other. I get excited about things that Josh brings into the rehearsal, and I can tell it's coming from a place that I can relate to. It's not coming from a phony place."
