Russell Brand: Drug-addicted musician role based on own past.

Russell Brand - fiancé of singer Katy Perry - says that he is happy to play the part of a drug-fuelled rocker in his new movie 'Get Him to the Greek'.

The British comedian, who plays Aldous Snow in the Nicholas Stoller-directed movie, admits that he draws on his own experience of drugs to get into character.

He told movie website ComingSoon.net, "It's really good because it's more fun to play him on drugs because now it enables me to relive the better aspects of my own drunken hell without some of the terrible consequences. I think it was written with my personal problems in mind so yes, I was able to bring a lot of that to the script. I went through all of those years with a crack and heroin addiction I might as well get some money out of it. It cost enough. It was expensive. You get beaten up and go to crack houses. There's a down beat in a crack house."

'Get Him to the Greek' is a follow up to 2008's 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', and features a number of cameos from pop stars including Russell's girlfriend Katy Perry, Pink and music mogul P. Diddy.

Recently it was revealed a kiss between Russell and Katy had been cut from the final edit of the film.

'Get Him to the Greek' is due for release in the US on June 4.
