Producers of the MTV Video Music Awards have invited Amy Winehouse's parents to attend the show in Los Angeles tonight (August 28) for what is expected to be an emotional tribute to the late singer.

Tony Bennett will take to the VMAs stage for the first time since the early 1990s to honour the 'Rehab' hitmaker, who died last month, introducing the tribute to Winehouse.

Winehouse's parents, Mitch and Janis, have been invited to attend the ceremony as MTV special guests.

Executive producer Dave Sirulnick told Eonline.com, "We're still working on it. Some pieces are still coming together."

The tribute will feature never-before-seen footage of Bennett and Winehouse recording 'Body and Soul' for his upcoming Duets II album at London's Abbey Road Studios.
