Arcade Fire announced as first Isle of Wight headliner

Arcade Fire will be one of next year's Isle of Wight festival headliners.

They will play the event - their only UK festival of 2017 - on Saturday June 10.

Promoter John Giddings said he was "so happy" to have secured Arcade Fire for the weekend.

He added: "David Bowie recommended them and I’ve been a fan ever since. Last year was an incredible year and I’m ready for us to come back even better in 2017."

Concerns were raised recently that the festival might have been cancelled next year if costs weren't cut.

The issue was revealed by the local council, who said organisers Solo Promoters Ltd had asked the authority to waive its hire fee.
