Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner: "I'm known for my music, not how well I deliver a speech"

After causing a stir with his acceptance speech at the BRIT Awards earlier this week, Artic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has revealed that he was simply nervous.

When Arctic Monkeys won Best Album for ‘AM’ at the London ceremony Turner took the microphone and stated: "Yeah, that rock'n'roll, it seems like it's faded away sometimes, but it will never die. And there's nothing you can do about it.”

At the end of his time on stage he dropped the microphone and said: “Invoice me for the microphone if you need to” (see video below).

Talking about his longwinded speech Alex Turner told The Mail on Sunday:

“In public I’m a quiet guy, so doing anything in front of lots of people always makes me nervous. I’m known for my music, not how well I deliver a speech.”

He went on: “People always assume if you’re in a band that’s been on the scene for ages that you’re going to be really confident, but that’s not true.”

The ‘R U Mine?’ musician has also spoken out about his band’s opening performance at the BRITS where the group were flanked by the flaming letters ‘A’ and ‘M’.

Alex divulged to NME: “[The organisers] said, 'Do you want to perform at the BRITS?' And the condition was we set an ‘AM’ on fire. Should people expect pyro at our shows now? I don't think so. I'm not going to rule it out, but that was hilarious.”
