Arctic Monkeys headline first night of Glastonbury

Arctic Monkeys were the first headliners to play Glastonbury last night.

The Sheffield four piece brought Friday’s events to a close when they played to 90,000 fans on the Pyramid Stage.

The band opened their set with their new single ‘Do I Wanna Know’ and filled the rest of their performance with a selection of favourites including ‘Brianstorm’, ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ and ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’.

Arctic Monkeys added a string quartet to proceedings during their tracks ‘Mardy Bum’ and ‘Cornerstone’.

Frontman Alex Turner briefly addressed the large audience in-between songs and at one point told them: “We’re gonna play all night long.” He then asked the crowd: “Does that sound good to you?”

However their set did come to an end with the slow burning number ‘505’ taken from their second album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’.

Tonight the festival will be headlined by the Rolling Stones.
