Avril Lavigne on being a music fan: 'I still listen to the bands I grew up on'

Songstress Avril Lavigne has opened up about the bands she likes and revealed that she can't tear herself away from the groups she was raised on, so tends to listen to older music from her teens instead of seeking out the next big thing.

Speaking to Radio.com about the music she plays in her free time, the 'What The Hell' star explained that she usually reaches for the material she grew up loving as it's familiar and gives her a sense of nostalgia: "The majority of the music I listen to now, today, in my free time, is the stuff I've always listened to."

"Blink 182 remind me of being in high school, and Green Day. When I first started out on the music scene, Green Day were playing a lot of the festivals I was playing and it was really cool for me to see, because in [school], I was listening to a lot of their stuff and I was playing Summer Sonic festival with them... A lot of Frank Sinatra and Coldplay, but I listen to a lot of older stuff that I have on my computer."

Lavigne also confessed that there's a particular band she enjoys listening to while cooking at home, adding: "I love Radiohead. I cook a lot, I put Radiohead records on in my kitchen. I actually had a really cool night where I got to meet the guys, and it was all very pleasant."

Last week, the beauty reached an exciting social media milestone after passing 14 million followers on Twitter and thanked her fans for the constant support by writing: "Incredible to hit 14 million fans on my twitter account. So kool and thank u all very much. I hope you enjoy my new record. Luv to u all."
