Stellar line-up to join Lauren Laverne for 6 Music Live at Maida Vale this October

The legendary Paul McCartney will join Polica, Goldfrapp, Manic Street Preachers and Sigur Rós as Lauren Laverne presents 6 Music Live at Maida Vale this October.

From Monday 14 to Friday 18 October, 10am-1pm, Lauren’s show will feature live performances from a stellar line-up of bands from those who form the core heritage backbone of BBC 6 Music, to newer artists who have been championed by the network.

Lauren Laverne said: “The 6 Music Live at Maida Vale sessions are always a highlight for me. A line-up of this calibre and range is one you’ll only find on 6 Music. Roll on October!”

Jeff Smith, Head of Music for Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “6 Music Live at Maida Vale has come of age in 2013. And to have such a diverse line-up including the world's most-loved singer songwriter is a dream come true, especially for the lucky listeners who will also be able to watch Paul McCartney perform live.”

Monday 14 October – Polica

Hailing from Minnesota, Polica first came to 6 Music’s attention in early 2012 after Justin Vernon of Bon Iver pronounced them “the best band I’ve ever heard”. Since then, the five piece have gone from strength to strength and join the station to launch 6 Music Live at Maida Vale with two albums worth of brilliant songs to pick from.

Tuesday 15 October – Goldfrapp

Now 14 years into an extraordinary career, Goldfrapp’s live performance is always special. The station has been playing the band since its launch back in 2002 and its airwaves are currently reverberating to the glorious sounds of their new record, Tales Of Us.

Wednesday 16 October - Paul McCartney

One of the greatest songwriters ever, the former Beatle and Wings man graces the Maida Vale stage for 6 Music Live. Still pushing the musical boundaries and with an incredible zest for producing great records, Paul returns to the same BBC studios he played in with John, George and Ringo in the Sixties with a brilliant batch of songs.

Thursday 17 October - Manic Street Preachers

It is now 25 years since the Manic Street Preachers released their first single, Suicide Alley, and today they’re still one of the most respected bands in the country. Their eleventh studio album, Rewind The Film, which is released in September finds the band in startling form and they will perform both new and old tracks at 6 Music Live At Maida Vale. Frontman James Dean Bradfield recently presented The Freak Zone on the network, cementing the band’s relationship with the station.

Friday 18 October - Sigur Rós

In what will be their first ever live session for BBC Radio 6 Music, Sigur Ros complete the line-up. The Icelandic band has stunned audiences for over a decade with their incredibly atmospheric gigs, and they bring our week of sessions to an enormous climax with today’s performance.

Listeners can also watch Lauren’s show featuring these sessions atbbc.co.uk/6music from 10am-1pm each day. And highlights of the performances will be available every evening on the BBC Red Button.

Tickets for all the performances are available from the 6 Music website. Registration will be open until 7pm on Friday 27 September. Tickets are free and will be allocated at random. Listeners can apply for a maximum of one pair of tickets per household. Full terms and conditions can be found on the 6 Music website.
