Elbow star defends Beyoncé's upcoming Glastonbury slot

It was recently announced that Beyoncé will perform at this year's Glastonbury Festival, but the thought of having such a mainstream artist has caused fans to question the event's rock 'n' roll roots.

The 'Halo' singer will headline on Sunday, June 26 and despite her incredible popularity her scheduled appearance has triggered a divde in opinions. Her husband, rapper Jay-Z, performed at the festival in 2008 and although his genre isn't neccessarily in keeping with Glastonbury's typical style he went down a storm.

Elbow's Guy Garvey gave BBC's Newsbeat his opinion on the matter and admits fans should trust the event's organisers:

"There was lots of controversy when Jay-Z was invited to play but what a hit that was. That was the fullest that the Pyramid Stage had ever seen that field."

"Let them choose what goes on. They've got more experience than anyone else on earth and it'll be fantastic like it always is."

"If they chose Beyonce to close it's because they know it'll be a fantastic finish."
