Michelle Obama responds to Beyonce 'love letter'

Michelle Obama has taken to Twitter to thank Beyonce for her personal letter of admiration.

The former Destiny’s Child superstar, who performed at Barack Obama’s inauguration ball in 2009, described the US First Lady as "the ultimate example of a truly strong African-American woman" in a handwritten letter posted on her official website yesterday.

The 30-year-old also praised Obama for her humility and sincerity and went onto cite her as the ideal role model for her and Jay-Z’s newborn daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

Obama, who was seen dancing along to One Direction at last week’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, then returned the compliment in a message posted on the social networking site last night:

She said: "@Beyonce Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to. –mo"

The pair have previously worked together on the Let’s Move campaign with Beyonce reworking her massive hit, ‘Single Ladies,’ into a song encouraging children to get fit entitled, 'Move Your Body.'
