Beyoncé's dad speaks of pain when he stopped being her manager

Two years after quitting as Beyoncé's manager, her father Matthew Knowles, speaks about how "incredibly painful" the separation was.

The 62-year-old who founded Destiny's Child told The Sun:

'It was hard for me to let her go — it was hard for both of us to let each other go. And let’s be clear on that. She didn’t let me go, we both let each other go. That’s a big difference."

As the father-of-three waved goodbye to his hold on Beyonce's career allegations that he had secretly pocketed some of her income surfaced.

Knowles added: "This was not a normal ending of a business agreement. This was a dad and a daughter and it was incredibly painful and it had some difficulties."

Knowles first started managing Beyoncé when she was part of Grammy award-winning girl group Destiny's Child before she launched her solo career in 2003.

The 2011 statement released by Beyoncé that announced her business split from her father read: "I am grateful for everything he has taught me.

"I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hard-working entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps."

This February Beyoncé revealed that her decision to part ways with Matthew was 'one of the hardest' career choices she has made.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey during her installment of Next Chapter, the mother-of-one admitted: "One of the hardest things I've ever done (was letting him go). Someone you love, someone that's given you life... someone that did a fantastic job. It's hard.

"It's a part of life and it's a part of growth and I had to just tell myself at some point, you have to be the adult that your father has raised you and prepared you to be."

Knowles revealed that he would like to return as his daughter's manager one day but is currently focussed on being a good grandfather to her daughter, Blue Ivy.
