Beyoncé plays first UK date of Mrs Carter Show world tour

Last night Birmingham’s LG Arena played host to the first UK date of Beyoncé’s Mrs Carter Show world tour.

In front of 14,000 fans Beyoncé delivered a 20 song set list that included her biggest solo hits as well as some Destiny’s Child favourites.

Opening the show with ‘Run The World (Girls)’ Knowles kept the high-energy tempo up with the likes of ‘Diva’, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ and ‘Survivor’ amongst others.

The concert also involved a number of theatrical ballads as Beyoncé performed ‘1+1’ on top of a piano and delivered ‘Irreplaceable’ whilst swinging from a harness high above the crowd.

Throughout the night the ‘Grown Woman’ superstar spoke to the audience telling them: “Thanks very much for having us tonight and welcome to the Mrs Carter Show.” She also expressed thanks to the crowd by saying: “I want to thank you guys for your love. I want you all to know I appreciate you for being so loyal over the years.”

Backed by an 11-piece all-female band, three backing singers - who were referred to as Beyoncé’s “sexy mamas” - and a host of dancers, the show came to an end with ‘Crazy In Love’ and ‘Single Ladies’ before an emotional encore that involved a cover of Whitney Houston’s famous single ‘I Will Always Love You’ and her own power ballad ‘Halo.’

Beyoncé will play another ten live shows in the UK before touring the rest of Europe. She will return for two further shows in England on August 17 and 18.
