Beyoncé's new visual album smashes iTunes record

Last week, Beyoncé shocked and delighted fans around the globe by dropping a brand new visual concept album without any promotion or prior announcement and the offering has now broken an impressive record on iTunes.

She unveiled the self-titled fifth album on December 13 by simply sharing it on iTunes and the album, which boasts a video for every track included on it, has now become the fastest-selling record to be sold through the online music retailer in its history.

iTunes confirmed that the offering shifted a phenomenal 828,773 copies in just three days and went to No.1 in a total of 104 countries through the various international online stores. In addition to breaking that record, 'Beyoncé' also broke the US first-week album sales record after selling 617,213 copies.

Speaking recently about her decision to accompany each song with a video, she explained that she 'sees music' so wanted to capture that with her new release: "I see music. It’s more than just what I hear.  When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies.  And they’re all connected to the music.”
