Beyoncé's new album sets US chart record

Beyoncé has become the first woman to see her first five albums debut at No.1 in the US.

As previously reported, the superstar singer surprised fans on Friday (December 13) by uploading a new self-titled record to iTunes without any warning.

It has sold bucketloads of copies so far - 617,000 in three days in the States - and as such, it hit No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

This means that she has now seen her first five records reach the top spot at the first time of asking - the first woman to do so.

Despite having no promotion prior to release, Beyoncé's new album has beat her previous US first-week sales record.

That was held by 2006's 'B'Day', which shifted 541,000 units in its first seven days on sale.
