Beyoncé album passes one million sales mark

Beyoncé's new album has already sold over one million copies despite having no promotion prior to its release.

The singer shocked fans on Friday (December 13) by uploading to iTunes her highly-anticipated follow-up to 2011's '4'.

She had been working on the record for months, but there was no marketing or forewarning about the self-titled album's release.

However, it has now been confirmed that the studio effort has bypassed the coveted one million sales mark worldwide on iTunes.

The news comes soon after the singer broke a US chart record. Beyoncé has become the first female to have her first five albums hit No.1 in their first week of release in the States.

Her first No.1 record in the US came in the shape of her 2003 debut 'Dangerously In Love'.
