Beyoncé's new album nears US platinum status

Beyoncé's new album is set to go platinum in the States.

The singer shocked fans on December 13 by releasing a new self-titled record without any notice.

It shifted a massive 617,000 copies in its three days on sale in the US and it is estimated to sell 260,000 units in its first full week.

This means that it is on the cusp of going platinum in the States, with the collection due to inevitably pass through the million sales mark soon.

The singer's record was initially released via iTunes only before being sold physically by retailers.

The album follows up the singer's previous full effort '4', which hit shelves in 2011.
