Beyoncé album pirated 240,000 times in first week

Beyoncé's new album was illegally downloaded around 240,000 times in its first week.

The singer recently shocked fans by releasing a self-titled record without any warning or promotion.

It has sold well around the world but Musicmetric have revealed that it was pirated nearly a quarter of a million times in its first seven days on sale.

In terms of the overall price of the album, it is estimated that those copies would have equated to $3 million in lost revenue.

The singer's entire back catalogue has been shared over two million times on file sharing websites in 2013.

The new record meanwhile sold 991,000 copies in its first ten days on sale in the US.
