Biffy Clyro thought their song being used for X Factor winner's single was 'funny'

Biffy Clyro have reflected on their song being used as an X Factor winner's single.

The band's 2009 track 'Many of Horror' was covered by Matt Cardle in 2010 when he won the UK X Factor.

It hit No.1 in the UK at Christmas, but many criticised the rock group for letting the TV show use their song.

Speaking to MTV, singer Simon Neil said that they ultimately thought the idea of their track hitting No.1 was "funny".

He said: "At the time it was so ridiculous that it didn't seem like a terrible idea and then suddenly the fans find out and people are going 'oh my god what are you doing?'.

"And at that point that was when we thought about it. We didn't really think about it until there was a reaction because we just thought 'that's so weird' it was just like 'this is hilarious, our song is gonna be a Christmas No.1 isn't that funny?! Yes, that's funny, let's do it'."

The Scottish trio added that they will always own the song.
