Biffy Clyro on Download Festival set: 'Metal raised us, so we will raise metal that night'

Rockers Biffy Clyro picked up the Best British Band title at last night's (February 15) NME Awards in London and they opened up about their forthcoming slot headlining Download in an interview after the ceremony.

Frontman Simon Neil told the NME: “We’ve played there a few times before and always really enjoyed it. There’s such an amazing history with that festival as well and I guess we’re just trying to create a little bit of our own when we go along. We can’t wait, it’s going to be a lot of fun."

"Metal raised us, so we will raise metal that night. Metal fans love something fast on the bottom string of the guitar and that’s fine. Heavy music has transformed so much in the last 10-20 years, some for the better and some for the worse. ‘Heavy’ can be just a state of mind – so we’re fucking heavy.”

As previously reported, the 'Mountains' hitmakers have revealed that getting to headline Glastonbury would be the ultimate honour: "I definitely think we could do it. It’s something we would love to do. It would be the biggest box ticked ever – but we’re not headlining it this year..."
