Ronan Keating has revealed that he never really expected to be performing in London's West End.

The Boyzone singer is due to play the part of Guy in musical Once between November 17 and March 21.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the Irishman said that the strength of the role encouraged him to try out working in the field.

He said: "To be honest, I actually never thought I would do the West End, but it's this role that excited me and made me want to do it.

"It has great dialogue, great direction. And great songs, my god the songs! It's hard to call it a musical. It's not really a musical it's more like a play with great songs."

The musical is being held at London's Phoenix Theatre.
